The Man Who Would Not Dance

            There was once a man, who claimed to follow Jesus, who served under Adolph Hitler. He survived the defeat of the Second World War. Years afterward, a Christian writer asked him to reflect upon his experiences.

            One was a memory he held with great pride: during the Hitler years a dance was held one evening, and the believer’s commandant ordered him to go. The disciple of Jesus refused; he believed that dancing was wrong. He risked punishment—even death—rather than go against his convictions on dancing.

            At the same time, this individual who claimed to follow Christ, assisted Hitler in his effort to eliminate the Jews. That’s right, the man who would dare sacrifice his life rather than attend a dance, was part of the Holocaust.

            Now folks, I’m not a fan of dances, but I think someone had his priorities out of whack.

The KKK Wizard and the Jewish Couple

            Hate is a terrible thing. The way to attack it is with love.

            In Lincoln, Nebraska, a Jewish couple was on the receiving end of a campaign of harassment from the local Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. They discovered that he was crippled and had great difficulty leaving his house to buy food.

            They startled him by showing up one day with a fine meal. They continued to return, and the Wizard with gratitude, accepted their friendship. Their love became an antidote to his poisonous hate.

            Didn’t Jesus say something about loving our enemies?

The Bad Thing About Lust

            Actually, there are probably a lot of bad things about lust. But the following, according to one practical book, is one:

            Lust treats people like football players treat a football in a ball game. How does a running back treat a football?            

            He cradles it; he cuddles it; he risks life and limb to take that ball to the goal line. But once that football crosses the goal line and he scores a touchdown, what does he do? He will spike it. He'll pound it to the ground; he'll dance around proclaim his conquest. Finally, when the game is over, he will ignore it.

            The purpose has been served. It has simply been an object to accomplish a goal. If you have been the object of someone's lust, you know how demeaning it feels.

            Make no mistake; it is the lust in the heart that drives one to dehumanize people. Maybe that is one reason Jesus said,  “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Mt. 5:27-28.) NLT
