Scattered Effort

            Here is something I read in the publication, BITS AND PIECES, twenty years ago; Henry Ford is the source of this quote, and it challenges those of us who have embraced the multi-tasking culture—of whom, I am chief.  

“A weakness of all human beings is trying to do too many things at once. That scatters effort and destroys direction. It makes for haste, and haste makes waste. So we do things all the wrong ways possible before we come to the right one. Then we think it is the best way because it works, and it was the only way left that we could see.”

            The psalmist issued a interesting related quote three thousand years ago:

 “Be still, and know that I am God…”

Looking for Spirit in all the Wrong Places

According to a Christian Research Institute report in 2003, more than 30 percent of Americans believed in astrology, and more than 50 percent believe in ghosts. A Harris Poll, that year, stated 60 percent of people under thirty believed in ghosts and 43 percent believed in astrology.

Nothing I have observed since then, causes me to believe those figures have gone down. If anything, the percentages have increased.

As Christian researcher Elliot Miller has written, people are looking for spiritual answers to life’s problems, they are just not interested in the ones God is offering.

Good information for those of us who are Christians, as we enter the Halloween season.
